A Fixed Fight

“For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:4-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Ever since I can remember, I have been a fan of wrestling. I watched it constantly when I was growing up, and even now I’ll catch it periodically. However, mostly I now watch documentaries of wrestlers who were at their peak when I was younger. One documentary I enjoyed the most was “Andre the Giant” (2018). This HBO film told the story of Andre the Giant, including the account of his famous Wrestlemania 3 bout with Hulk Hogan. It was a fascinating story, as Hogan recalled working with Andre to script it out and how Andre didn’t want to let Hogan win (the WWF wanted Andre to pass the torch to Hogan). Eventually, Andre relented and let Hogan pin him, which ignited the historic run of Hulk Hogan.

Andre the Giant knew that despite his attempts to avoid the inevitable, ultimately he would lose. The WWF had already determined who the winner would be. And just as wrestling matches are fixed fights, so is the fight we have with this world. The world hates us because it hated Jesus (John 15:18-19), which is why we face more and more opposition each day. But because of what Jesus did on the cross, we have victory over the world. As long as we believe in Him and follow Him, we already win. It’s a fixed fight for sure, but I’m glad we’re on the right side of it.
